Well, it’s been quite a while. I’ve recently decided I need to finish rewriting The Mists of Faeron, and finish the trilogy for that matter, so I thought I’d start here.
I no longer write for the game Kaos War. When I went to work for them full-time, we agreed upon a date that I would be put on salary. I was told investment money fell through, and they were unable to pay. Not surprisingly, I said I would not continue working for free. I never heard from them again. Very unprofessional organization. Avoid them if you can.
The online graphic novel project I began work on is most likely not going to happen. I had a power surge at home that not only took out my surge protector, it destroyed every component of my computer – including the usb backup drive that was plugged in. I was able to restore most of my writing and other data, but a lot of my notes are gone forever. Even though I lost all my notes pertaining to this project, the reason it’s not going forward is Henning just doesn’t have the time. Darkfall has been released, but he’s still extremely busy. I had talked with another artist, but he felt the project was too large for him to undertake.
I am working on other projects, however. I’m designing and writing story for another MMO, working with my wife on the design and my good friend Mel Griffin to secure funding. Keep an eye out for more information on that. I’ve already completed the short design document and may release some story on an official website for the game.
I’m also going to be working with Bob Nelson again, reviving a series of short stories we wrote long ago that dealt with modern-day heroes and villains in a city called Haven. The characters won’t be fantastical in the way of comics or retarded in the way of television. They’re just ordinary people with extraordinary means and a drive to change the world around them.
So I’m currently not employed, playing Mr. Dad for my five year old daughter, and have a fair bit of time during the day. I’ve gamed for just about a year straight, from Warhammer back to City of Villains to the new Runes of Magic. What I see makes me weep for the MMO market. When we get the funds, and we will, I’ll see what I can do to change that.
As for writing again, it’s always difficult to get back into it. I don’t mean scribbling down a few paragraphs for some idea, I mean creating a lengthy novel that someone will want to invest their time in. I’ll go through my usual routine of rereading the first book and all my notes, taking new notes, dreading the first sentence I need to write. Even though I know it gets better, and the pages will soon be flying, the hovering fear of this-may-suck still haunts me. In any case, I’ll work through it and get the book done. I still have nine chapters, or about 180 pages, left to go.
Who knows, I may even try to do a few blog entries here and there.
